The goal of anti-racism work is not racial integration; the purpose of anti-racism work is racial equity. Black people can still be oppressed in integrated schools, neighborhoods, and jobs. The goal of anti-racist work is to undo the tangible harm done by the racist American system.
It doesn’t matter if Black and White kids are in the same school if all the Black kids are failing.
It doesn’t matter if Black and White people work at the same job if Blacks folks get paid less than Whites.
It doesn’t matter if Black and White kids are friends if Black kids go to jail for the same thing White kids do without penalty.
Anti-racist work isn’t about diversity; anti-racist work is about tearing down systems that oppress Black folks. Let’s do the real hard work of eradicating racism.
The first step is honesty about bullshit “anti-racism” efforts.
